Tesla Model 3 vs Hyundai Ioniq 5: which EV makes more sense?
Singapore is now one of the fastest-adopting EV markets in Southeast Asia, driven by the EEAI incentive and expanding charging infrastructure. Two models sit at the top of the shopping list: the Tesla Model 3 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Range and charging
The Model 3 Long Range RWD claims 602 km WLTP. In Singapore conditions — AC on, expressway speeds — we consistently achieved 480–510 km per charge. The Supercharger network is fast (250 kW peak) and reliable, with stations at Jurong Point, Suntec and Bedok.
The Ioniq 5 AWD Range tops out at 481 km WLTP, with real-world figures closer to 390–420 km. However, Hyundai's 800V architecture enables 220 kW charging — a 10–80% charge in under 20 minutes. For Singapore's limited charging network, that speed advantage matters.
Interior and technology
Tesla's minimalist cabin centres everything on a 15.4-inch screen. The Ioniq 5 takes the opposite approach: physical climate dials, a full heads-up display, and a sliding centre console that makes it feel more lounge than cockpit.
Verdict
Choose the Model 3 for the best Autopilot and Supercharger network. Choose the Ioniq 5 if you carry people regularly, value physical controls, or prioritise charging speed over range.
