COE premiums ease for Category B in the June exercise

The first bidding exercise of June 2026 delivered mixed results. Category A premiums — for cars up to 1,600cc and 130 PS — rose marginally to S$96,001, while Category B (above 1,600cc or above 130 PS) eased to S$112,889 from S$116,200 last fortnight.
What drove the Cat B dip?
Dealers report lower demand in the larger-car segment as buyers sit on the fence ahead of expected model refreshes from BMW and Mercedes-Benz in Q3. When dealer demand softens, premiums typically follow within one or two exercises. That said, the correction is modest — Cat B remains at historically elevated levels.
What does it mean for your purchase?
If you are buying a Cat A car: there is no signal that premiums will retreat meaningfully in the near term. If you are buying Cat B, the current slight easing might persist another exercise — but do not wait too long if a specific model is your target.
